CHARLIES CHARITY GOLF DAY £17k  SUCCESS

132 golfers participated in the 6th Charlies Trophy, on Friday 20th July at Dainton Park GC.

A fun packed day challenged the golfers with several fun golfing tests including beating Trick Shot Pro Rob Brown on the 8th hole, whilst he hit his shot standing on one leg on a step ladder backwards with a driver with only 12 players succeeding!

Other trials were Egg & Chip – chipping an egg into a frying pan (albeit a rubber one) hosted by local telecom company Mantracom, a mixture of Snooker & Golf ‘Snutting’ on the putting green supervised by the Jelf Group, and by challenging young Devon golfer Megan Giles.

An opportunity via a hole -in-one for a £10,000 Kitchen donated by sponsors System6Kitchens of Exeter, as well as a chance of an electric scooter offered by Newton Abbot Coot Scootz. Three lucky teams won fourball vouchers by playing a Poker hand sponsored by Genting Casinos.

The primary beneficiary is the RTS support group with donations to the CATCH project a citizens advice project to put a home visitor on the road, Chestnut Appeal (Prostate Cancer project in the South West) , Alzheimer’s Society as well as donations to Dainton Captains charity of the year and Marie Curie.

Martin Smith said about the day.

“Last year’s £17,000 I thought was amazing, to repeat it again leaves me nigh on speechless – overwhelmed by the support of so many individuals and companies, I cannot name them all but special mention has to go to Nigel Jones of System6 Kitchens who has sponsored every year , Will Smith of Complete Estate Agents who conducted the auction ,the team at Dainton and my daughters Emma & Becky and all the family” he added “ I can recommend organising a golf day to lose weight – I managed to lose 3lbs in the week leading up to it!”

Rob Brown ‘Tricky Rob’ put on a mind-blowing trick shot show at the end of the day with unbelievable stunts, whilst the golf round was undeniably long the golfers participated with good humour and generosity.

Local business MD Developments won the team prize, closely followed by Coot Scootz and Munchkins.
